Sacred Tower of the Christian Race

Sacred Tower

2 minute read

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Built in 1913, the Pagoda today is 10 stories tall. After 105 years of colorful history, the tower remains a hub of activity and the control center for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. When we visited recently, I was impressed by the core importance of the building, its centrality to the entire Speedway, and its ability to control and communicate the highest-capacity sports venue in the world. Finally, after a myriad of facts and legendary stories during a recent bus tour, I understood.

How simple and yet how intricate were the parallels between Christ in us as believers and the Pagoda of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and its importance to the whole entity.

The Pagoda’s ten stories control the race, enforce safety, record the timing and scoring of the races and broadcasts its commentary to the world. Likewise, when our Christian lives are controlled by our tower, Jesus Christ, centrally located in the hub of our commitments, we possess a core of control and communication that others see and enjoy. The confidence that we have in Christ, our high tower, to carry out our lives in His will stands taller than the whims of our personalities, strengthening the core of our Christianity.

IMG_8373In the Media Communications Center floor of the Pagoda at the Speedway, my daughter and I were thrilled to “broadcast” a race, hamming it up behind the microphones at the Indy 500 news desk as our friend snapped our antics. Similarly, our Christian lives have a Media Communications Center with unlimited opportunities to spread the Gospel, a world to reach with His plan for eternal life. With powerful speedy technology, we can lead others to the Christian race.

Each floor of the towering Pagoda catered to the needs of the Speedway, from the first-rate seating for visitors to the Media Center. Likewise, the tower of our Christian lives, our Savior, helps us with the greatest need in our lives which is to glorify Him!
