The Power of Community Among Godly Women

 Community Among Women

God created woman with an inborn desire to live life in community. In the old-fashioned TV show The Waltons, four generations lived together, accepting and receiving advice daily. Nine seasons of episodes centered around life’s typical situations. Even entertainment displays our natural tendencies to congregate. We constantly share resources, and experiences. Thousands of clubs, Facebook groups, and other events offer a buffet of women’s gatherings. The social media platform Pinterest (an online pinboard that collects visuals for interests) has an incredible female audience of 81 percent according to digital marketing agency, Omnicore’s January 6, 2019 article.

Community Among Christian Women

In Christianity, this tendency to group together follows the advice of Titus 2:3-5 where God creates a community of females whose friends include older women. With their stories of how God provided for them and how He taught them patience, wisdom, and godliness, they guide us today. God uses the way He designs our hearts to attune to other women so that we can understand his stories about them.

For example, there are 167 named Bible women. In looking at a list, one can quickly see that multiple women share the same Bible references. When we look at the 167 named women, there are at least 124 of them who are in groups. That’s a huge percentage, almost 75 percent. Bible women are intricately wound together, and that is Secret #2. God uses the pattern of women in groups to send messages to us today.

The Priceless Impact of Godly Women in Community

As Christian sisters, we can group together for spiritual strength. During our time together, we think on good things (Philippians 4:8), don our armor of God (Ephesians 6), and group together for spiritual strength (Titus 2:3-5). We are prone to lose sight of the big picture of God’s Philippians 1:6 plan for us, to have our visions blurred by circumstances, and to be attacked by our emotions. Combatting these tendencies requires the defense of godly women in community.

This is the second secret from the gathering of named Bible women. Their closely twined stories shine extra light on the power of living in community with godly women. Here are a few suggestions for connecting:

  • Choose a support network who have gained godly wisdom through experience.
  • Connect with women in Bible study as they dig deep into the wonders of Jesus.
  • Find community with holy ancient women in His Word whose messages bridge the ages.

The power of godly women in community profoundly affects us as individuals, the church, and the kingdom of God.
